I have applied some of these tips to the adsense block in my sidebar, plus added the ones in my RSS feed. Sometimes though, the one in my sidebar comes up with a border anyway. I hope the redesign helps them generate some clicks.

I have found that putting adsense on the bottom below the fold does not generate as much money as on top where people can see it. People need to see the ads. Also, having the ads be related to the content is important. For example, if your website is about gardening and you get ads about – industrial power PLANTS, you are not going to get many paying clicks.

Great tips! I have tried with the “Ditch the border” for quite some times and I mix my adsense ads into content, it worked quite well for me. Just to make sure that don’t put any “Click Me” or similar words around the adsense ads.

Itochka, there is nothing wrong with this. Its not deceiving your readers to click, but to notice your ad as part of your content.

Agent101, Google wont ban you for this primarily because even Google says the same thing, make the ads look part of your content. You can read about that on Google Adsense Blog.

So in other words, try to deceive your users into clicking on ad links? Have I got that right?

Don’t you think advertisers will eventually catch on that AdSense is charging them for useless traffic? What do you think will happen to the amount of their bids?

I suggest looking up a concept called the Tragedy of the Commons.
