How To Choose A Good Domain Name
Posted on February 04, 2009 by admin

Even before you make your own website, the most crucial element that you need to consider to make it fully functional and potentially visited is giving it a name – a domain name in a more specific manner.
Below are 14 tips towards the effective naming of your web site.
- Do not give in to the idea of giving a domain name just for the sake of doing it.
- Never rush yourself in choosing a domain name.
- Ask other people about what they think of your choices.
- Do your own research about where to find good domain names. There are sites that offer professional help in customizing your what you want.
- Try to be observant. Look into what common denominator every established site has and try to arrive at your own unique sense of naming style.
- If you think finding a good domain name is difficult task, you are wrong! What could be the secret to finding a good domain name? For that you will need to add proper keywords to it too.
- It must be easy for the search engines to pick up. In this article you will learn how to do both things.
- Your first objective is to find a search engine optimized keyword that you can use in your domain name. To find this, you can use a keyword analyzer.
- One place to get them is through the search engines. Employ a sample keyword into this tool that describes your website. The analyzer tool will display several options for this sample keyword.
- Choose those keywords from this list that describe more about what your website is about. You’re site is better search engine optimized if you use a long tail keyword because there will be fewer webmasters who will choose them.
- At this time, you can begin looking for your definite domain name. A lot of the domain name companies on the Internet will let you know if a particular name is available. In case the domain name you put in is not available for use, you will be given some other alternatives. Put in your keyword first; this will help you make better use of this tool. The keyword may not be available to use as the domain name so you need to put some creative thought into it.
- Craft a domain name that contains your keyword in some way by using some filler words or numbers. One rule is to put the words ‘a’, ‘an’ or ‘the’ as fillers. Therefore, your domain name gets optimized and also remains better in the visitors’ memories. Any number like 80 or anything else will do.
- There are some ideas to use if you get everything else but not the .com ending too. If your keyword is extremely trendy, a different extension can be used. Some such popular examples are .org, .net and even .biz. Consider this if you do not lay more stock with the difference between worldwide or local marketing. For example, it is better to be number 1 in the Austrian Google than number 400 or something in American Google!
- It is not complicated to have a domain name that serves well for your visitors as well as for the search engines. The rest is governed by the analyzer tool. When you find nothing helps you in getting the domain name of your choice, changing the extension always works. This is one of several key points in ranking well with your mlm home business or any other program you need targeted traffic for.

I was trying to come up with a new domain name for another project and as usual, all the good .coms were taken. In your experience, are the .nets, .orgs, .bizs, et al NOT good for search engines? I wound up passing on “myfirstchoice.org” because I just couldnt bear the thought of settling for another non-.com.

Good topic! I’ve been reading about this very thing @ different blogs.. one thing that T mentioned is how the .net .info etc etc use to be “bad”. Now it’s believed that CONTENT is the driving force and whether you have a .com or a .whatever, if your content is great, you’ll do great!
BTW, wish i had read this post when i first started my niche store businesses… talking about jumping the gun! HA!

Sometimes I think finding the right domain name is the hardest part. I like to brainstorm for a few hours sitting in my favourite coffeeshop and reading a newspaper or book besides. Often an idea or keyword comes in my mind reading somthing totally off-topic.

Nice tips. I never thought like that. I was really lucky that I got the domain name that I wanted without doing much of efforts. I only regret that I had to buy the Dot Net version as Dot Com was already taken.
