Relocating can be difficult enough, now imagine that you are adding toddlers to the mix as well as the idea that you are moving across the country. Your stress just compounded. It is possible to move across country with toddlers and not lose your mind. In fact, it can even be completed with three toddlers, triplets in fact. I guess the most asked question is, where do I start?

One of the first things you are going to have to do is to get at least three moving quotes from good national companies. I would stay away from your small instate companies or those that do not have a good name. Keep in mind that with some things, it is not always best to go with the cheapest company out there. You are, after all, placing your life in to the responsibility of your movers. You will want to make sure that the interstate movers that you select are insured and bonded and check their track record with the better business in the town you are moving from and thetown you are moving to. You cannot be too careful.

There are many moving services to select from; you can package and unpack yourself, you can let the moving company pack for you and then unpack on your own or let them pack and unpack for you. My suggestion is that you do your own unpacking; as if they unpack they will only put things on counters, leaving more work for you in the end.

When you are moving with small children you may find that it is simpler to have them pack for you. You also may want to think about how you and your family are going to go from the old house to the new one. If in fact you are driving, it may behoove you to leave your husband at home to be there when the truck and packers arrive while you and the toddlers start your trip to the new house.

Entertaining toddlers while others are packing and loading the truck can be a challenge. Also, make certain that you pack the kids’ room last, that it is the last furniture on to the truck and first off at the new location. You can get their area set up first so you can focus on the rest of the house while they play with their toys. Remember, it is possible to make it through relocation without having to give up your sanity in the process. You and your children can make it with smiles on your faces.
