One of the best and most cost effective ways of earning as an affiliate is to maximize the payback you get from any paid advertising you undertake. One easy way to do this is to capitalize on major advertising campaigns being run by big companies.

For example, if the latest Playstation 3 game is in{/spin} your face turn the TV on, it makes good sense for you to advertise it yourself. The world and his wife know about it – it’s a known and trusted brand – all you need to do is get them to a vendor’s website by way of your affiliate link and you’re in the money.

You can achieve this in exactly the same way as you might promote any other item – employing blogs, squidoo lenses, articles etc. – but if you are latching onto a concentrated marketing campaign by an multi-national corporate giant, then a pay-per-click campaign might be needed to capitalize on the buying frenzy which will be generated very quickly.

And it’s not just massive advertising or marketing promotions that can benefit you. Any product which gets significant reviews on national television can see a very rapid surge in demand.

As an example, I had good results and made a lot of money with a device to lower blood pressure by medical doctors on popular television programs in both the USA and the UK. I quickly set up a PPC campaign using Google Adwords, I built a Squidoo lens and I used a few articles on the subject.

I still make good sales with this – and because it’s a new, innovative product it still gets occasional reviews in all forms of media – but shortly after it was featured on the TV was when sales were off the scale.

Bearing in mind that time is of the essence and you need to get in quick, you might want to try a direct linking campaign to your vendor’s site rather than establish your own dedicated web page. Of course, if you already have an established website or blog that the product in question is a good fit for, that may be a good option for you also – but don’t be put off direct linking. When there is a strong live advertising campaign and the brand is well known, this method still works just fine.

The Amazon Associate Scheme is a good source of hot products which are frequently enjoying massive promotion on TV, the press and radio and you can very quickly set up an ad campaign to cash in. Commission Junction, Linkshare etc. also have an extensive range of companies with good well known products for you to promote.

So the next time you’re sitting on the couch waiting for the adverts to finish and your favourite show to start, or maybe when you’re browsing the morning paper over a cup of coffee, keep an eye out for any product, and in particular any new product, that’s being heavily advertised. It could just be your next big cash cow.
