Creating a Special Niche Business

Posted on June 28, 2009 by admin

The economy today is struggling and several Americans are losing their jobs in America. A lot of people have been forced to contemplate ways they could earn a living after being laid off from work. Some are returning to school or learning a new technical trade to become marketable in. Others are pondering whether they should follow their dream and start their own business where they can run everything and be their own boss. Even though retail businesses sales are lower by 20% on average from last year’s sales, some smaller businesses are booming and having a great success in this down turned economy. This article will touch on a few of the business industries that are succeeding such as artistic jewelry makers that make a niche market like creating horse jewelry or star jewelry or creating things specific to marathon runners and triathletes. These unique niches continue to thrive today.

The smaller businesses that do not succeed and have gone out of business for various reasons. One reason is that they picked the incorrect location for their business where the need for their particular item was not needed and thus fell by the wayside. Another reason small companies may fail is that they attempt to sell something that is sold by several other bigger companies that have better marketing, advertising andmore competitive prices. A great example of this is the old Mom and Pop bookstore that hashad a hard time competing with the large Barnes and Noble and Borders Bookstores. Their little size and marketing funds just can not compete with thesehuge stores that are selling the same products. The key to making it whether it is in a shop or simply an online internet store is to create a particular niche that will appeal to a specific demographic yet one that continues to look for products within that niche.

A great example of this niche market is sports. That group of people continues to grow every year as people are deciding to be more active for their health and are seeking the fabulous benefits to participating. Whether it is a marathon race or an equestrian event, several vendors attend these events to sell to those involved. many times in their community, there is not a store that may contain special horse themed items or clothing specific for competing in a triathlon. At these events, the vendors will sell to this particular niche and also let the participants know how they can purchase more items for the future, particularly via the internet. People that are passionate about their hobby or sport wish to own everything related to that passion. Many people now see vehicles driving around with an equestrian sticker or a 26.2 sticker letting others know that they are a horse jumper or have completed a marathon.

This is thekind of business to get into currently to be successful. The best way to break into this niche retail market is to follow one of your passions and find others that do as well.
