Few Things You Need To Know About SEO
Posted on February 10, 2009 by admin

Search Engine Optimization or SEO refers to a strategy in doing internet marketing where the owner of a certain website uses the search engines to drive traffic to their sites. The search engines are the ones used by many people in finding information they need through the links of different sites.
Although there are hundreds of search engines online that people can use, the three major ones are Google, Yahoo, and MSN. What these search engines do is let loose their spiders, so these bots can crawl through all corners of the Internet to find all matches to the keywords that the user has typed in the search bar.
So, for those who own and maintain websites, spiders will find their contents when certain words match and the links will be displayed in the results pages of the search engines. When the links are displayed at the first page, then there is already a captured traffic. People would click on to the site options enumerated by the search engine, and they will check out what that sites have to offer.
What site owners should work on with their search engine optimization efforts, is to understand how these search engines are looking for the information and what their protocols are in putting what site in what spot in the search results pages.
Keywords are the key. These are the words that people would type when they need something. So, if you are a site owner and you have a certain product offering, you have to grab hold of the list of keywords related to your site and product. These are the ones that your target audience will most likely type when they’re searching online.
Now, how important is SEO to a site owner looking to earn an income doing internet marketing? Very. Why? Because it is so much better to be getting hundreds of visitors who are interested and are therefore already captured, than a handful of accidental browsers. Since there is a huge increase in the number of people that are already doing business and loads of other stuffs online, your goal should be to land on the topmost part of the first page of the search results. When you manage to do that, then you get all the possible targets instantly when they click.
Optimization involves the play-up of keywords and their strategic placements in the web pages. The primary spots where spider bots crawl to are the headings, subheadings, titles, and the domain name of the website. They next scan through the contents and linger on the first paragraph.
Knowing where to properly place your keywords in your website and in your contents or articles will help you come up with a good strategy to lure the bots and flag you. When you know the right keywords, you can start working on the contents, which could come in the form of blogs, forums, chats, articles, reviews, reports, tutorials, e-books, videos, etc.
But, putting keywords isn’t everything. You will have to really work on providing interesting, informative and useful contents – and this is not a one-time effort only. You will have to continuously come up with creative ideas if you want to keep on working on your SEO strategies.

It definately makes a big difference. When I view Google Analytics, it’s obvious that certain keywords are more likely to bring in search engine traffic. Often, those visitors also stay the longest because they actual came for that specific content.

This is a great post! SEO is hard to figure out, and you made it seem understandable. I’m trying right now to insert Google Analytics into my site, but I just don’t know where to insert the code. Trial and error. Let me know if you can help.
Thanks,

When using Keywords.. don’t forget “long tail keywords” When you do your keyword research, whether you’re using the free adwords from google or the free wordtracker.. or paid versions.. Long tail keywords can make a huge difference in getting visitors to your blog, blog posts or niche stores.
Here’s an example searching for Golf in google.
“Golf” returns 412,000,000 results WOW! How hard will that be to get YOUR site to rank as high as you want using just the term “Golf”
“Hybrid Golf” returns 222,000 results.. Much better and would be much easier to get this term ranked on your site!
“Hybrid Golf Clubs” 109,000 results. Even better!
So always remember to use those “long tail key phrases” when you do your research and you’ll be surprised how much easier you can get ranked higher in the serps when there is much less competition!

@ The Almost Millionaire – didn’t know if anyone answered your question about Google Analytics.
Copy the Analytics code block into every webpage you want to track immediately before the tag.
For example on my jakecpunut.com blog, i edit the footer.php and put it just before the tag.
hope that helps!

@ Jake you are correct. Targeting for phrases is good and easy. I have seen many people who are really interested in something type phrases. Who would like to search for “money”. Instead most of us search for “money making”, “how to make money” etc.
I also put my Google Analytics code in the footer. It is the best place. So @ The Almost Millionaire put it in footer as Jake told.
