This year more than ever you may find that backlinks (one way links pointing to your site from other web sites) are much more important than ever to your domains overall success.

Certainly one of the all time best ways to create, or get, backlinks from other sites is through writing and then submitting articles to article directories. Articles submitted about a topic in your niche serve to create credibility for you and your site as well as generate consistent one way links to your site.

Your articles should be tightly focused on keywords from pages on your site. You can submit them to article directories, website owners to be used for content on their site, ezine publishers for content for their readers, online magazines and even offline media.

Now submitting to article directories may get you a backlink from them it is also highly likely that you may also pick up backlinks from other sites of webmasters who like your article and can use it as content on their site. It is quite possible to receive several backlinks from one article submission. If you submit to several or dozens of directories you can exponentially increase your one way links with no further effort on your part.

Some other ways you can also build up one way links is to buy them as text ads from other sites. This of course comes with its ups and downs.

If you find a high PR site that offers backlinks text ad spots you may find the price is quite high. On the other hand a high PR site with a lot of traffic to it can result in your site receiving a lot of visitors from the link.

A third method of obtaining backlinks is to submit comments to blogs that contain links back to your site in the comment itself. There are a lot of blogs that have the “no follow” comments active on their blogs but their are probably a 1000 times more that do not, so it’s still an overall good strategy to build backlinks.

Now the thing to keep in mind about backlinks is that if you check the number of backlinks to your site via google you may find that it differs quite a lot from other search engines and from sites that are designed to search for backlinks to your site.

The reason?

Well, Google through whatever reasoning they use, will only show a very small percentage of one way links that point to your web site, which may only reflect a small portion of the one way links that you actually have pointing to your site. Don’t worry though, Google knows exactly how many backlinks you have and inserts the number into their algorithms that eventually produces the page ranks for sites.

Nice little blog, and a pretty decent post on getting backlinks.

I personally prefer to either comment on dofollow blogs to get backlinks, or make a contest/give away some stuff for free in return for a backlink.

    Nonetheless, nice tips!

  6. There is a plugin for Firefox that lets you check if the comments on a blog are DoFollow – https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5687
