Your website is as important as the web traffic you get. There are millions of websites currently running; some useful some purely a diversion. Whatever you want to do in your website, as a site owner/ manager your targeted traffic is your main concern. Web traffic is determined by the number of visitors that visit your site and the number of pages they go to see. Site owners/ managers monitor incoming and outgoing traffic to see which parts or pages of their site are popular and where most visitors spend time in. This will help by deriving any apparent trends, such as one specific page or topic is being viewed mostly by people in a particular place/ country. If you knew better, you would quickly adapt to this trend and update your website accordingly. However, it’s not always the case.
Placing of sites in search engines and purchasing of advertising have been the contemporary method of increasing web traffic. If your web page does not appear on the first pages of any search, the chances are a searcher is less likely to find your site. Since it is seldom that prospective visitors go to the succeeding pages of a search result, you lose a potential visitor. Advertising can be in the form of bulk e-mails, pop-up advertisements and in-page advertising. The traditional way of non-internet based advertising is still around. These get the job done but are rather tedious and costly. You also have to know who to purchase e-mail addresses from for bulk emails or pay a fee for placing your ads. Again, since there are internet trends, after awhile, you may have to change methods/ styles to adapt to the trend.
Then, there is viral traffic. It is when your existing website visitors, customers, or subscribers refer you to others. It can also be when other webmasters send traffic to your site. This is the best way to get web site traffic because you get traffic and others are doing the work for you by recommending you to their network. It’s like an exponential surge of traffic! Viral advertising can come in various forms: free email service, free greeting cards, e-books and many more. Viral advertising can come in many forms, but the most common ones are the free email services, free greeting cards and e-books. Since there are a lot of options available for you, you still need to evaluate your web traffic needs and find out which one works for you. There are sites that use scripts that allow site owners to refer their traffic to you. Some include a search engine submission page where that page either refers it to a friend or links it back to them.
Think about what your web traffic needs are. The way to reach your targeted traffic is to know where the source is. Viral traffic is getting to be popular and viral advertising is just the perfect way of getting to your target market.
